Practical information LET Workshop Weather: The temperature in the Bay Area will likely get down to about 5 deg Centigrade at night, and up to about 15 deg Centigrade during the day. The winter is California's rainy season (in fact, it is raining right now as I type this), so bring appropriate clothing and and umbrella. Food: The Stanford Guest House serves continental breakfast every day. The Linear Cafe at SLAC serves breakfast and lunch during the work week. Their menu is at: http://www2.slac.stanford.edu/cafe/ For dinner, or for alternate lunch options, there are 3 major business districts which can quickly be reached by car from SLAC. The closest is Santa Cruz Avenue at El Camino Real. Driving directions: http://tinyurl.com/yv3xqo There is also University Avenue in Palo Alto, though driving in that area is a bit of a mess due to complicated street geometries and heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Driving directions: http://tinyurl.com/2agloc There is also the Sharon Heights shopping center, which has some restaurants, a delicatessen, a Starbucks, and a supermarket. It is within walking distance of SLAC, though it may not be very pleasant to walk there if it is raining. Directions: http://tinyurl.com/238p5a Banquet: The banquet will be held at PF Chang's Restaurant in the Stanford Shopping Center, just down Sand Hill Road from SLAC, on the evening of Wednesday the 12th of December. The banquet will be about $25 / person; unless somebody has a serious problem, we would like to collect cash from everyone to cover this amount. We will want to get an exact and final count of the number of people at the banquet on the first day of the workshops, so be prepared to tell us that day whether you are going to the banquet, and whether you are bringing any guests who are not at the workshops (spouses, children, random strangers from SLAC...). There will be sign-up sheets in the two conference rooms on the first day of the meetings. We are planning to get vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes for the banquet, but please let us know if you have other food issues (allergies, etc.). We will have to drive ourselves to the banquet (no bus). The route is very simple, and there should be plenty of people with cars; we will organize this after the end of business on Wednesday the 12th. People who are driving: please take all appropriate precautions with respect to consumption of alcohol! SLAC ILC Holiday Party: Conference attendees who are interested in coming to the SLAC ILC Department Holiday Party should reply to the evite as soon as possible. SLAC Main Gate: When you enter SLAC, use the left entry lane of the main entrance and stop at the guard shack. The guards will be expecting you and will let you in but you will have to show some form of identification
