From settles@mppmu.mpg.de Thu Dec 20 14:40:36 2007 Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2007 14:37:57 +0100 (CET) From: Ronald Dean Settles To: lctpc@desy.de Subject: [lctpc] Summary WP phonemeeting #46 Wednesday 19.12.2007 Dear lctpc colleagues, Below is a summary of yesterday's phonemeeting. Let me know if you have something to add/change... Summary ----------------------- 0. Slides are at the agenda site: http://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2472 1. News. -Klaus Dehmelt chaired this meeting; he will coordinate "integration of LP1 subsystems" at Desy next year, which was an open task emphasized at WP#43 LP phonemeeting on 07.11.2007. He will also be making up the "Time schedule for LP1" as discussed at WP#43. ((((N.B. After this development, the remaining LP1 open tasks are o.Slow-control system (lctpc) o.Gas system o.Event display--from the summary of that WP#43 meeting)))) -The LCTPC meetings next year were discussed; everyone should note the following dates: ILD WS Zeuthen D 2008 Jan.14-16: subdetectors 14.00-16.30 on Jan.15 which will be the next WP phonemeeting #47 WP phonemeetings 2008 every second Wednesday after Zeuthen TILC08 Sendai JPN 2008 Mar.3-6: LCTPC coll. meeting on Mar.2 ILD meeting on Mar.7 Desy PRC 2008 Apr.1-2: TPC will be reviewed ECFA LC Warzaw 2008 June9-12: LCTPC coll. meeting before or after(tbd) LCWS2008 UIChicago 2008 Nov.16-20: LCTPC coll.meeting before or after(tbd) 2. LP cosmic trigger. -The cosmic-trigger phonemeeting was summarized in Takeshi's slides on the agenda site. Delivery of counter slabs can be expected by end-January (at the latest) to Saclay where preparations for commissioning have already started. 3. LP laser, endcap and fieldcage. Laser: ----- -Alexei couldn't attend today's phonemeeting because of the RHIC shutdown and Star opening; he put together some ideas which are on the agenda site. He asked for holes on the anode and cathode sides at azimuthal positions where the fibre bundles would be glued to the inner surface of the fieldcage. Dan said the holes on the anode side had been removed after the last meeting because Alexei's laser will enter from the cathode side, but they can be put back in again if Alexei needs them for alignment purposes. -The light holes for Victoria have been agreed on with Dean. -There was a discussion about E-field distortions caused by such holes. Dan thought they might be mitigated by a kind of "guard ring" and will make a sketch as to how that would look; Peter will recalculate the distortions expected. Endcap: ------- -Dan had no new items on his website http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/~dpp/linear_collider/LargePrototype.html since he was on vacation for a few days and because some technicians were ill. A prototype backframe that was made has to be redone because some dimensions were outside tolerances. -Klaus requested additional through-holes for slow-control monitoring purposes (temperation, pressure for example). Dan said this would be possible and the standard must be decided, SHV or BNC; Klaus will find out what is normally used at Desy and let us know. Fieldcage: ---------- -Peter reported that the 3.6kN pull-out tests are successful for certain insert configurations; he will report on the final size of bolts and insert holes as soon as a few more tests have been completed. 4. LP1 electronics. -Leif gave a status report. He covered frontend boards, missing components, new preamps, Altro, overall layout, kapton cables and new connectors. No details will be given here since Leif intends to produce a new detailed time schedule soon (his time schedule from last summer is out of date). A few general points: the 'missing' components have been found, the modified front-end boards should be ready in January, components will then mounted by a company (time needed uncertain since it depends on the company), and then tested (time needed also not yet known since testing options have not been decided on). Software development on the DAQ for testing the full board is ongoing. Leif proposes to run the 25MHz Altro at 20MHz; Madhu said maybe o.k. but we must check. 5. AOB. -LP1.5 magnet for Fermilab: Takeshi reported that the Amy magnet centerline is at 275cm while the beam height is at 205cm; also the flux-return iron is welded together. So it looks like the Amy magnet is not an alternative unless there is a proposal for this asymmtric configuration. -Madhu said that he has heard nothing new about the Triumf magnet since wpmtg#44 on 21112007. -Jan, who takes over as European RC, thanked RS for his spokesman's work; RS said that he will continue to work on the LCTPC (will finish the MOA business for example), and that being freed of orginizing these meetings will give him the opportunity of contributing more on other TPC and ILD issues. -Next meeting: at ILD Zeuthen workshop, 14.00-16.30 Jan.15 = WP phonemeeting #47 = i.e. a phone will be needed.
