Initial draft and questions/issues for discussion Friday 14 8.30-10.30 Multipoles in ATF2 magnets (1) assessment of impact on achieving goal 1 (2) assessment of impact of uncertainty in magnitude (from KEK / IHEP differences) and angle references (3) SAD/MAD cross-checks, (4) possible cures: sextupole rotations, added skew sextupole, optimised betaxy, swaps of magnets QEA magnet measurements at KEK and comparison with IHEP results (1) assessment of sextupole and octupole components, especially skew components (2) clarification of angle reference (3) preparation of "best magnet" list as candidates for potential future swaps to be studied in simulation Group discussion of strategy concerning how to mitigate insufficient magnet quality for some of the ATF2 magnets (1) are swaps really necessary and is the expected benefit enough to be worth the large effort ? (2) are we sure enough of the actual magnetic multipoles to specify one or several definite sextupole rotations for mitigation purposes ? (3) is it safe to rely exclusively on empirical tuning with an added skew sextupole (which may further complicate the overall tuning and bring its own extra complications) ? BSM operation plans in 2011 (1) expected overlap between crossing-angle modes with nominal and degraded errors (2) stability issues: what contributes to variability of results, changes in the electron beam or internal degrees of freedom or both ? (3) is dedicated time still needed to commission the large crossing angle modes ? if so, with what kind of beam ? Organisation of "dedicated shift blocks focusing on goal 1" during 2011 Winter and Spring operation (1) definition of frequency (every week ?) and conditions (secure adequate staffing to make sure we have stable overall ATF operation ?) (2) availability / need of collaborators to take shifts (3) application software status and priorities for tuning and control (4) information transfer between successive shift crews (this seemed to work better in the first continuous tuning week than in the second...) Explaining present thoughts and points of view, and leading into a group discussion...
